Fun Facts

Currently learning & exploring:

AI/ML. I’m currently diving more into ML and start going through free courses at fast.ai. Feels like a whole new world!
Astro. Big fan of the work that astro.build is doing to enable developers to create fast static websites. This website is one of them!

Home automation. Currently using HomeBridge on a RaspberryPi as well as Starling Home Hub to consolidate a bunch of disparate devices into HomeKit. A lot of things here I hope to write more about someday, like tweaking an ffmpeg plugin to transcode camera video from a DVR so that it loads up faster on HomeKit.
Home improvement. I enjoy eeking out efficiency gains throughout the home, and just making it an easier and more fun place to live and work. Some big projects I’m dreaming about: finishing the basement, and replacing our conventional HVAC system with heat pumps (so that we can rely on just electricity instead of natural gas).
Movies/TV: Star Wars & Marvel Cinematic Universe most recently. Really enjoyed Andor! Related fact: when I was a kid, I was obsessed with lightsabers. I would make videos and painstakingly draw lightsaber effects on each video frame.
Personal finance and investing. If there’s a “stonks” Slack channel, count me in.
Our “battle stations.” Productivity and ergonomics are a great topic, and I enjoy learning more about how people improve their setup, workflows, and environment.

Exercise: I enjoy running, swimming, and weight lifting. I used to be really into doing a running/obstacle challenge called “Tough Mudder,” but nowadays I aspire to just keep active when I can. I also like going hiking, but there are not many opportunities for that around where I live. I’m trying to do this more in the mornings; currently done in the afternoon around lunch time.
Random fun fact: Many years ago I was in an online “reality-style” commercial for Microsoft. Got a laptop (still have it, although it just recently died) and some other swag/tech – notably, a brown Zune. It was a fun & weird experience!
